What is the difference between a session and lesson?

In a lesson, an instructor will guide you in a safe and fun manner from the beginner waves to improver waves and beyond. In a session you surf independently like you would in the ocean.

Are there changing facilities?

Yes, we have heated and accessible indoor changing rooms with lockers, showers and hair dryers located in our changing area.

Are there lifeguards?

Yes, we will have fully qualified lifeguards on duty when the Cove is operational. Our surf instructors and coaches are also qualified in all aspects of water safety.

Do I need to bring a wetsuit?

We will provide you with high quality wetsuits, boots, gloves, a hood and a surfboard as a part of your lesson or session. You are more than welcome to bring your own if you would like to.

Do I need to have surfing experience?

No, we welcome all levels of surfers even those that have never surfed before! Our ISA qualified instructors will help you learn and progress and will ensure that you have a lot of fun doing so.

How many surfers in a lesson or session?

The number of surfers in a lesson will be a maximum of 8 surfers per instructor. The number of surfers in a session will vary depending on the session. We will always ensure that we are providing a safe, fun and pressure free experience.

Can I use my own board?

We have a range of softboards that are free to use and a variety of higher performance boards that are available to rent, but yes, you can use your own board if you would like to.

Is the water cold?

We are not blessed with consistently warm water in Scotland but we have carefully picked the best wetsuits, boots, gloves and hoods to ensure your warmth and comfort.

How deep is the cove?

The depth ranges 0.5 to 1.2 metres in the bay and 1 to 2.5 metres on the reef.

Can I access the resort without a booked experience?

Absolutely! We welcome anybody who wants come and enjoy our café bar and restaurant and watch the surfers in the Cove.

Can I turn up and surf?

Yes, absolutely! We advise booking in advance but surf walk-ins are welcomed subject to availability.

Accessibility

Is the resort and Cove area accessible?

Yes, the main resort and Cove area, including our café , bar, restaurant, toilets and changing areas, have been designed to be fully accessible. We also have accessible Waterfront Lodges.

Is the accommodation wheelchair accessible?

Our Waterfront Lodges, the Kurvs, are designed to comfortably sleep up to 6 people and have been specifically designed to be wheelchair accessible.

How many accommodation units do you have?

We have 22 Waterfront Pods & Lodges overlooking the Cove and 31 luxury Hilltop Lodges with incredible views of the Cove, our extensive grounds and the hills beyond.

Is the accommodation dog friendly?

Well behaved dogs are welcome to stay in our Hilltop Lodges for a £35 charge per dog per stay. We allow a max of two dogs per Lodge. We provide a water bowl, a dog bed and dog treats. 

Dogs are permitted on a lead within the grounds apart from inside the main buildings such as our dining areas and changing areas, with the exception of registered guide or support dogs.

Are there cooking facilities in the accommodation?

All of our Waterfront and Hilltop Lodges have fully fitted kitchens.
